Are there any plans to repair the bumps on the front straight?
There are 8-10 TAG karts in the area that would like to run Batavia
but not until the bumps are repaired.

We talked about this subject just last night at the banquet. It seems the problem lies where the inner section meets the straight at the timing tower. We are looking into getting the section shaved but we need to find someone who can handle a little project like this. As a new organization we do not have the funds to take on a project like this ourselves at the present time but Bob is willing to work on getting it repaired. We would love to have your group race with us on sundays.

In years past, Avon has rented a small milling machine and did the work themselves using top&bond. They have also had sections repaved by a contractor.

I spoke to the guy that help repair Avon's track. you can rent a small milling machine from
Admar supply. He'd be willing to come up & show you how to fix the bumps. He was the track president at Avon when he repaired the track.

Before the formation of the club, I had talked to the owner of the company I work for regarding the bumps since he happens to have a paved track in his yard $$$. He has a connection that has the equipment/knowhow also that we could pursue for Bob as "Plan B" if the need arises.

What's the latest on the bump removal?

Walt shared the # of his contact with Jim P. at the Feb meeting and I figured it would have been something on the list to take care of during the track work day before the season actually started.

It was mentioned that the guy would probably come out and do it in exchange for waiver of some race entry fees.

We can't pass over an opportunity to add about 10 karts to the race program with the possibility for more in the future.

We did work on the track and took a serious look at the bump. Bob is is favor of having it repaired but upon looking and measuring the height we are afraid that if we grind down that area we will be into the gravel causing very big problems. I am not a contractor so we need someone with experience to look at this before we rent any equipment and try to do this. if there is anyone with experience in matters such as this please contact me.
We would love to have the tag karts race with us but as you know the track is not smooth especially turn four. I am willing to meet at the track just about anytime to try and resolve this.

My dad told me to write this so dont take it out on me but, he says that u guys r wimps. when he takes the shifter out u do get some air, but it's not that big of a deal. he also says that it's character in the track if u take it away there's no character. but u just gotta learn how to drive it how the track is

Hey, new member here. Not to sound stupid but why can't the tag karts handle the bump?

I don't know that much about the tag karts but Will is right, the shifters have no problem with the bump. When the Toronto kart club raced at the track they had no problem. Are the shifters beefier in the drive line or do the tags have a totally different setup?

I'm not positive, but they may have been concerned with the rear wheels leaving the ground and overreving the engine.

then lift. It's no different then braking for a turn. If there is a turn at the end of the strait you turn, not request that they extend the strait. This is a track feature and it doesn't stop any one from driving over or around it. Maybe one of the tag guys could come out and make a few laps. This way we can see just how bad the situation is. If they ran a configuration with out the first monza they would be lifting at about that spot i'm guessing.

my shifter goes in the air on that bump, i just lift right at the top of it, sure its bumpy there from getting airborn but it wont keep me from racing there.

honestly the thing that bothers me more is coming into the first hard left after the bump, when you have a shifter with brakes on both ends the kart noses over so much under braking into that uphill corner that you end up grinding the underside frame rails and front bumper up in the foot area of the kart pretty bad......

Here is a link to a shifter race in what apears to be a very large parking lot. If they can race over this then no one should complain about the bump.

That's neat,

I've been watching several shifter kart and tag kart videos. Really gives me goose bumps and makes me very excited/interested.

If they were bigger in this area I'd buy one for myself and one for my kids to race.

Can someone try to explain to me why none of the WNY or CNY karting clubs caught onto 2-cycle racing? (TK, tag, shifter) I've been asking that question to several people and no one can seem to give me a good answer. Since after the mid 1980's it went to ALL lawnmower engines, YUCK

The sound of a lawnmower engine isn't very exciting for me and probably the fans.

Sorry, needed to vent

just my $.02

4 stroke Briggs World Formula and Animal's are NOT lawnmower engines! They are much more reliable and require much less maintance!

Hello David

Until this year there were several shifters at Batavia. Biggest problem was other than a few of us on Sunday most chose to run theres on Saturday for practice rather than come and race on Sunday. For some it was an inability to be at the track on Sunday, some others stated more track time during a practice day.

Now I have been racing my shifter since 2001. On race day you get over an hour of practice 20-30 laps easily! Then 2 - 10 lap heats and a 20 lap main. If you are driving a shifter at the max level of it's ability, you should have enough track time on Sunday!

I would love to see the shifters pick back up at Batavia. I currently have a full 125 moto setup but would opt for a stock Honda motor package if there are any other interested parties. Besides the stock Honda is a growing national class and can be run at most other close tracks i.e. OVRP, St Lawrence, Beaverun

By the way, the bump on the straight is your least concern. There is a peddle on the front of the kart on the right side called the throttle, Just let off for a millisecond!
Hope to see you out there. feel free to contact with any other questions

Mike,

That sounds cool, I will be out on a Saturday in a couple of weeks to play with my vintage Margay/MC91 with my kids. They are really excited about driving it. Of course right know were all busy rebuilding the entire kart and engine. My daughter is more exited about it than my son, he's more into the moto-x thing (Dana Patric look out). Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing some shifters run. I've looked at them on My Space and they give me goose bumps. It looks like fun just to play on Saturdays even if we don't race one.
