So you have seen the karts flying around the track. You have seen the ear to ear grins as the drivers pull their helmets off after a succesful outing.

But, how fast?  Who with?   Where?  When?  And finally, how much?????

We will try and answer some of these questions here.

Who with?

There are many clubs around the country that offer a safe, structured group of racers in which to get started. Here at the Batavia Kart Club (BKC), we believe in our mission statement.

How fast?

Our racing karts attain speeds from 40mph in our junior classes to 70+ mph in our senior classes.

Where?

The BKC is a traveling group that runs our own rules package and point system at multiple tracks in the western and central NY & Pennsylvania state areas.
Tracks include :  Avon, NY,  Bliss, NY,  Cherry Valley, NY,  Oakland Valley, NY,  Pittburg International, PA.

The BKC will always do what we can to accommodate racers and their equipment in our class structures. You can see provisions have been made in our rules to run the Animal Senior with World Formula Lites/Masters and the Yamaha 4 Hole Cans with the World Formula Lites/Masters. When?

The BKC runs a 12 race season. This allows our club members to have a full season of racing while also enjoying time with their families away from the track.
Our 2012 season schedule is being finalized at this time. A look at the 2011 season schedule wil give you an overall idea.

How much?

There are many factors that go into this area. We will try and break them down here.

What will a kart cost me?

We recommend purchasing quality used equipment to enter the sport of kart racing. With the purchase of used equipment, you can learn as you go with proven equipment. For $1,500 to $2,000, you can buy equipment to suit your needs.

What are the costs for an entire season of racing?

The costs involved are similar to travel hockey. You will spend money on getting to the track and race day fees. A new set of tires will keep you competitive, although used tires are available.

What type of safety equipment will I need?

Safety is a major concern and approved equipment makes racing safer and more enjoyable. A quality helmet is a must (Snell 2010). A neck collar and gloves are mandatory. We recommend the use of a rib protector to avoid bruised ribs.

How do I get my equipment to the track?

Because karts are small the back of any pickup truck will do the job. A trailer,either open or enclosed, makes getting to the racetrack easy.

Do you have classes on what to do once I get to the track?

We do not have formal classes but we have something better. For the first weeks you will pit with a veteran racer who will help you along and answer any questions you might have.

How do I learn the racing rules?

All rules are written in the official Batavia Kart Club rule package but we will help you with race day procedure. Your job is to ask if you have a question, we will be happy to help you.
