rear bumper 3 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I am not sure it would have helped anything with my osn's crash/flip, but what are the thoughts on requiring at least the Juniors to run the full bumper for 2010?

Regardless, I will be adding it to Michael's kart over the winter.

I have been thinking about this as well, as I had two of these types of incidents this year. I will probably also fit the full-width bumper for next year.

The argument you always hear is that having a rear bumper will just cause guys to be more aggressive and it will be easier to "punt" people out of the way. Although I agree with that point I also feel like this could be controlled by having the race director address this issue through warnings, penalties etc. I like the idea of running with the bumper and have considered adding one to my kart. I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this one. P.S. I like the idea of running the bumper in our junior classes.

I don't like the standard wide rear bumper but I do like the roller system like the rotax kart have. I beleive Mike polizzi has a bumper system developed like this. Maybe he can give us a bit more info. This is another topic we need to address.

I think it is a good idea. Adam has to have a full rear bumper on his dirt cart. I know that is a completely different form of racing. And it certainly is more rough and tumble than road racing. And of course you see lots of spins and hitting the wall, but very rarely does someone go airborne.

I my self have been looking at them. I think its a good idea. I would also like to see a clutch rule bone stock NO improvements just a $60 clutch for jr.1 stock clutch with improvements for jr.2 unlimited for jr.3 Its been an interesting year meeting and competing against all of you. I'm just trying to keep my wallet were I can reach it and hopfully we can get somemore drivers for all classes for the 2010 season. Don

I can see the benefits for the younger drivers learning the art of Kart control. Not sure about the adult drivers.

That said, if you are looking to upgrade to the full size bumper I deal with Mark Burgfelt at Burgfelts bumpers. He makes custom steel bumpers at 1/3 the cost of the plastic units. I have them on the kartraiser site and will be adding the page to the Full Bore site soon. Also they are designed to work well with my kart stands.

I ripped off a nose on Rick's kart, and I wound up in the catch fence at Avon after running over rear wheels. If those karts had rear bumpers I might have saved some money and had a better finish at Avon. If it will help minimize the chances of drivers flipping karts then I think we should look at doing it.

I don't think the rear bumpers are going to prevent a rollover. I see more problems with them than without. I think that a safety cource could prevent more accidents than any bumpers. We should run a mandatory class at the begining of the season. No class no race. It should cover all forms of safety including teching our karts.
